Our Story...

The woman in the photo is Grandma. To others, she was known as Mom and Betty, but to me, she was Grandma. Her warmth and laughter filled our lives, but as she grew older, things became more difficult. She wanted so much to stay in her own home, where every corner held memories of love and family. But as her health declined, our options seemed limited. We made the difficult decision to place her in a nursing home, hoping she would receive the care she needed. But the reality of her time there was far from what we had hoped. Despite the efforts of some wonderful staff, the care was often inadequate—she felt lost, and so did we. Her abilities quickly diminished in that environment, and with them went her sense of hope. I watched as my once-vibrant Grandma became a shadow of herself. The nurturing environment she deserved simply wasn't there, and it broke my heart to see her struggle. I couldn't accept that this was the best we could do for her. So I began a journey—a two-year struggle to navigate a severely broken system, fighting to bring Grandma home with the care she needed. I spent endless hours learning the ins and outs of care coordination, battling red tape, and seeking out resources that were anything but easy to find. It was a long road, filled with frustration and uncertainty, but I knew I had to honor her wishes and bring her back to the home she loved. When I finally managed to bring her home, we saw her light begin to return. She was surrounded by familiar comforts, with care that respected her dignity and independence. This experience taught me so much—not just about the challenges seniors face, but about the desperate need for better support for families who want to help their loved ones age at home. That journey brought me back to my purpose. It became my mission to make sure no one else has to struggle like we did—to make it easier for families to find the resources and care their loved ones deserve. And that’s why Hand in Hand in Your Home exists today. We are here to provide the kind of support that allows older adults to remain in their homes with dignity, surrounded by the people and memories they cherish. We are here to help families like mine navigate a complicated system, so they can focus on what really matters: loving, supporting, and being there for the people they care about.
